Vincent D. Jones-Centeno brings over twenty years of experience teaching piano to the Astoria Conservatory of Music. He taught keyboard theory/skills and instrumental conducting at the University of Oregon. In addition to teaching at the Astoria Conservatory, he is the music teacher at Lewis and Clark Elementary, the music director and conductor of the Cascadia Chamber Opera, the organist and music director at the historic Grace Episcopal Church in Astoria, and the Artistic Director and co-founder of the Junction City Arts Council in Oregon. Previous experiences include serving as the Education and Artistic Director of the People’s Music School and music director of Genesis Opera in Chicago.
Former piano students include piano instructor, Janel Carbonell-McGrath who is currently writing a curriculum that combines music and math, and Adrian Metzger, owner of a professional recording studio, teaches private piano and performs regularly in the Chicago-Metropolitan area. Vincent received his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Piano Performance from DePaul University where he studied with Mary Sauer, Principal Pianist of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and received his PhD in Music Theory and Conducting from the University of Oregon.
